Shou Sugi Ban

Inspired by the Japanese art of charred timber, SHOU SUGI BAN captures the smell of wood transformed by fire. Dry blackened, aromatic, and still unmistakably alive underneath the char.

The opening is cool and resinous, with hinoki, elemi, bergamot, and cypress giving the impression of freshly cut Japanese wood. As it develops, cedarwood, guaiacwood, guaiacol, and a trace of birch tar create the fragrance’s signature: the smell of a scorched wooden surface, darkened by flame but not reduced to smoke.

Underneath, vetiver, patchouli, labdanum, Ambroxan, Cedramber, and clean musks give the fragrance structure, projection, and a long, dry woody finish.
